Most people like to plan a vacation or trip, and while its great to go away and relax it would be terrible to arrive home and find out you have been the victim of a burglary. What, then, are some things you can do to keep some of your smaller valuables safe at home, while you are away?
Its true, there are many advanced security measures a homeowner can take to protect their belongings, but we are going to consider some really easy and simple methods of keeping precious items out of the hands of an intruder. Its good to remember that a burglar wants to be in and out of your home as quickly as they can and so will look for valuables in obvious and easy to access areas. One area you may feel your belongings are protected is a wall safe, however, it can be relatively easy to cut this type of safe out of a wall. A better option would be a floor safe, as these are a lot harder to remove.

When you are thinking about where to place your valuables, think about places no one would think of. Underneath and house plant pot is one idea, also you could place items underneath the trash bag of a bathroom or kitchen garbage can. After all, not even an intruder would want to spend time sifting through your trash, just make sure these items are in protective containers.
Do you have a small library of books? A hollowed-out book is another place to store small valuable items. If it is amongst a lot of other books, its unlikely a burglar will spend much time going through each one on the off chance there are valuables hidden.
What about the garage? Its usually a place where we store containers and boxes of things we don’t use very often. Choose a container with a label such as “old baby clothes” or “school supplies” to hide your valuables in for example, something that an intruder would never think to look inside.
This is just a few small suggestions of places in your home where you can hide your smaller, precious items. However, it is a good idea to purchase homeowners or renter’s insurance to cover you for the larger household items that are not so easy to hide away.
