When it comes to installing asphalt shingles, you have the option to remove the old shingles, which isn’t very difficult, or you could even choose to save some time and install the new shingles on top of the old ones.
However, what are the downsides? One is the texture that the shingles have. It makes it easier for things like moss and mold to get a foothold, so you should be careful not to let water pool up on your roof. If the roof develops a problem with mold, a mixture of water and bleach can be used to clean it off.
It is better for the roof not to be in constant shade, since this will encourage growth of moss, so it is a good idea to cut back branches that cover your roof.
