How many of us have worked hard to make the yard a beautiful landscaped piece of paradise only to have it attacked by some type of wildlife? While we have nothing against the wide range of beautiful animals and wildlife in general, it can be a different matter when they are on our property. So, are there ways that we can control wildlife from entering and damaging our yards or homes? While the obvious choice might be to spray the area with chemical to get rid of the pest, there are many other things you can do to control wildlife on your property without the need for this. What are a few, simple things we can do?
In order to deter an animal, rodent or insect, its important to first identify what it is that is causing damage. In this way, you can research what kinds of things repel it. It’s also good to think about what is attracting it to your property. Most of the time, this will be because there is a good food source or shelter. Identify what kind of food source might be attracting the particular type of species and try to eliminate it. This may involve not using certain types of plants and shrubs in your landscaping that appeal to the pest.
You can also try to place some type of barrier for keeping wildlife out. If a barrier does not work, what about some type of repellent around the area, these don’t always need to be chemical but can also be a visual repellent or even a noise that deters them.
If all these methods fail, there might be no alternative but to capture the animals and relocate them to another area. Depending on the type of wildlife problem you have, though, its good to consult with your local wildlife or animal control agent. As we can see, although there are ways to control unwanted wildlife on your property, its good to ask yourself how much damage they are really doing and then determine if it’s even worth the effort.
