There are many substances that occur naturally in nature that could seep into your water and make it unhealthy to drink. It is also possible that it has been contaminated by human action. Any chemicals that leak out on the ground near your well could end up in your water. This is why your septic system shouldn’t be within 50 feet of your well. You also shouldn’t park cars or machinery near it, since they could leak oil or gasoline and contaminate the water.
