You probably have some fond memories of time spent on a playground when growing up. You might not have given it much thought, but there are many dangers lurking on a playground, especially one that is poorly maintained. You can find guidelines for a lot of different playground features that will keep your children safe when playing on the playground.
If there are swings on the playground, they need to be 2 feet apart as well as at least 30 inches away from the frame. This is to keep them from smacking together when swinging.
Your playground should be covered in soft material that will lessen injuries from falls. Sand, rubber and sawdust are good options to use. If there are moving parts where fingers can get pinched, such as on a seesaw, these should be under a cover to prevent children from reaching in.
If you notice any equipment that is in bad shape from rust, rot or any other problems, you should fix it as soon as possible.
