Do you hate running around looking for a free outlet to plug in your phone charger? If that is the case, you have probably invested in a power strip or two to increase the number of outlets you have available. While these are very useful, especially if you have a limited amount of outlets available in your home, there are some safety precautions you should take to make sure that your strips don’t turn into hazards.

It is important to consider whether what you do will lead to overloading either the powerstrip or the circuit where it is connected. Daisy chaining power strips could quickly lead to a higher load on a strip or a circuit.

You never want to use a power strip to connect a major appliance. For most appliances, the rule is that you want to connect them directly to an outlet if it is at all possible. If this isn’t feasible, there are extension cords that are specifically manufactured for that purpose, which is not the case with a power strip.
